Our grandfather said if he had only had the time to read good books, he'd have been a scholar. His grandson has the time to read good books, but he doesn’t, because he has now decided that the way of life, is, to take this leisure and spend it in self-improvement on television commercials. Or, watching the Beatles.
* CONTEXT: This lecture given just a couple months after The Beatles came to America and appeared on TV. Clearly, Mr. Hall was aware of Beatlemania.
